The Shepherd University Bookstore will generally buyback from students any textbook adopted for the following semester(s). Submitting your Book order by the appropirate date maximizes the chances of students receiving the best prices for their books at buyback.

The following is the dates in which you must your course materials for each appropriate semester.

The Shepherd University Bookstore has made available to you through ShepherdBook.com, Books In Print online, to assist you in researching prospective books. Also, available is FacultyCenter.net. This site provides detailed information on textbooks, and links to various publishers that provide additional information to assist in the selection of your course materials. The userid is 71335 and the password is fgh565. This userid and password is only for FacultyCenter.net.
The bookstore is staffed by professionals who are willing to assist you in placing your textbook orders. Login to the faculty section to get access to these services and to conveniently order your course materials online.

Months before the beginning of each semester, the Shepherd University Bookstore sends to each of the Shepherd University faculty members, via their department secretary, a preprinted form showing the books that have been used for a course the previous semester, along with blank "adoption" forms. You will indicate on either form what books you want to adopt and return the forms to the bookstore by the appropriate date. To place an order online for your textbook, please click here.

The Shepherd University Bookstore has an extensive network of used book suppliers and an experienced used-book buyer so we can supply your students with less expensive used books, and find out-of-print titles.

For your convenience, we provide a Desk Copy Order Form in your Directory of Publishers every fall. If you did not receive a directory through the mail, please stop by the bookstore and pickup your copy.
NOTE: The bookstore cannot order desk copies.
If you have a desk copy on order and there is a delay in receiving it from the publisher you may purchase a copy of the book at the bookstore and receive a full refund as long as the textbook is returned as soon as you get your desk copy. If you have written in the copy purchased from the bookstore, you may return the copy you received from the publisher to us as long as the publisher has not printed "Free Copy" or the like anywhere on the book.

Orders submitted in a timely fashion will allow us to effectively process and research your order(s) and notify you of any problems well in advance of classes starting. On time orders will also give students a better opportunity to sell their books back at a higher price during buyback as well as provide a higher number of used books for the next semester. Incomplete or inaccurate information will cause delays processing your order. Please complete as much of your book order as possible. If the publisher is small or obscure, please provide phone numbers or at least address information whenever possible. Also, please call or stop by the bookstore two weeks before classes to make sure your course materials are in order. Finally, in the event we need to contact you about your order, please provide a phone number where you can be reached.

Please re-submit your textbook order each semester as we only order for one semester at a time. Please provide Department, course number, and CRN number(s). If a new edition of a book is available, but you want to use an older edition, specify the edition you would like us to order. If you request recommended or optional materials, please note that we will order 50% of projected enrollment unless you specify otherwise. If maps, study guides, solution manuals, instruments, tool kits, or similar items are needed for a course, please indicate on the order.

Please provide an ISBN number whenever possible. This will help us identify the specific title and edition needed. After submitting orders notify us immediately of any increase in enrollment so we can order additional books in time for classes. If you wish to order a package, i.e. textbook with special CD or study guide, please notify us to that the proper package is ordered.

Please notify us of any course/section, cancellation or addition, so we can provide complete and accurate information to students, and have the appropriate amount of books on hand. If no books are needed for your course, please indicate 'NO TEXT'.

NOTE: Book orders for the Spring semester are due October 15th Book orders for Fall and Summer semesters are due March 15th.

We prefer that Textbook re-orders originate with the instructor. If you find that your enrollment has increased after classes have begun or there is not a sufficient supply of textbooks available at the bookstore, please place a re-order. This will provide us with a more accurate count of the number of books needed and ensure that every student who wants a book gets one. As soon as you know additional books will be needed, please contact Tina Miller at the bookstore, or call 304-876-5587, with the following information:

  • the actual enrollment for your course or section
  • the exact number of additional copies you need for your students who want books.
The Shepherd University Bookstore will have textbooks shipped 2nd day air at our expense for re-orders placed by faculty during the first two weeks of class.

Please advise students to purchase their books before the return deadline. Unused textbooks are returned to our suppliers each semester around the second month of classes. If you need a book at the end of the semester, please call us before the second month of class. Per your request, we will hold books instead of returning them to the supplier.
